Requiescat in Pace Tom Shippey

Some sad news in today's New London Day. . Requiescat in Pace, Tom Shippey. Thank you for the 'heads up', Marguerite Stoffel Glidden.

Groton — Thomas “Tommy” C. Shippey died after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Aug. 18, 2017, with his loving sister and friends at his side at Apple Rehab in Mystic.
He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Pellegrini and husband, Frederick, of Westwood, Mass.; as well as two nephews, Michael Pellegrini of Westwood and Matthew Pellegrini and his wife, Rachel; great-niece, Margaret, and great-nephew, John, of South Orange, N.J.
Tommy had a charismatic personality and was loved by everyone. He loved all sports, especially his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. He had a photographic memory and knew all the statistics on all sports, past and present. Everyone was drawn to him and enjoyed his company.
He was a graduate of St. Bernard High School in New London and Boston College, graduating cum laude.
He worked for the FBI, Millstone Power Plant and Amtrak of New London. Everyone coming into the train station loved to talk to him! As I sat at his bedside, hospice workers and hospice volunteers, neighbors, lifetime friends, all have told me how much they loved him and spending time with him. He had an amazing heart and was extremely generous and very forgiving of his friends!
A memorial remembrance will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at The Olympic Hotel (Best Western), 360 Rt. 12, Groton. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, in Groton.

Donations can be made in Thomas’ name to The Center for Hospice, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, Ct 06360.
