Little Galapagos Restaurant Gathering, December 29, 2022: Part I

Our classmate, Charlie Hennegan was unable to attend yesterdays's event, but he sent me a letter yesterday morning. With his permission, I read his letter to open the festivities at Little Galapagos Restaurant. Thank you to Virginia Levasseur once again for recording and sharing it. Shout out with a big thank you to Charlie Hennegan in California: you were surely with us in spirit, Charlie, if not in person! As you can see, the group thoroughly appreciated your letter! 😉 https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOB9LtuOrnqsGSOkOvQ8VN8s6DfrY0wtYF1rYpoU24Fbi3ISi71ZkCptLltr4kMLg?key=VFRQRTdXaGNOVHk0bzdHT1hWYlVHaERPb3d4Vkp3

SBHS '67 Reunion Committee has finalized the plan for a Holiday Gathering!

Hi All, Your SBHS '67 Reunion Committee has finalized the plan for a Holiday Gathering: Date: December 29, 2022 Time: 1:00pm Location: Little Galapagos Restaurant and Bar 119 Broad Street New London, CT Link to their Menu: https://little-galapagos-bar-grill.webnode.page/menu/ There is room to socialize, a great menu, and a full bar. Plus..... the location, in case you didn't recognize the address, is the former Pennella's Bakery, directly across the street from our old SBHS New London campus! So, if you are interested in walking off a few of those lunchtime carbs, you may want to take a little nostalgic walking tour of the campus. There is an adjacent parking lot, as you can see in the photo, in addition to street parking. BTW, St. Edmund's Hall is now GA 10 Circuit Court; Marian Hall has the New London Senior Center in the former cafeteria; St. Albert's Hall is now the United Methodist Church. We would like to give the restaurant a ballpark figure on the expected headcount, so if you are planning to attend, just shoot me an email or a text by December 27. Any questions, call me: Tom at 860.961.3576 We look forward to seeing you at 'our old stomping grounds' on December 29! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All! Success! SBHS '67 Get Together September 5, 2022!

I believe the SBHS '67 Mini Reunion/Get Together at The Social in New London on September 5, 2022 qualifies as a success! Thanks to all for attending, and special Thanks to Barbara Doherty, Joan Sullivan, Mike Armenia and his cousin Joyce, who all helped make it happen! Despite the torrential downpour (at times), we had about 30 hardy folks come out for the fun, food and drinks. And there were at least a dozen more who had planned to come, but, due to illness or concerns about the driving conditions, they had to cancel at the last minute. Add that to the numerous responses that we received from folks all over who were interested but were unable to attend on such short notice --- and my apologies for that--- and, well, it's clear that the Spirit of '67 is alive and well! We will awaken the Reunion Committee from its slumber, and get to work to plan something for next year that will allow a reasonable notice and time to plan. In the meantime, I offer these few photos that I took --- I just forgot to bring out my camera! Bruce Gallemore with the pocket patch from his SBHS 1967 blazer, and the program from the Spring 1966 Variety Show, also courtesy of Bruce Gallemore. If anyone else has photos from the evening, please feel free to post them here, or email them to me and I will post them for you!

Change of Venue for SBHS '67 Mini-Reunion!

If you are on our Class mailing list, you should have received this notice already. But.... just in case: HEADS UP! WEATHER FORCES CHANGE OF VENUE TO: The Social, 208 Bank Street, New London! Humble apologies for this late notice but....the weather forecast is forcing us to make a change of venue. We have been scrambling for the past two days to get an answer from Ocean Beach on what happens in case of inclement weather. Huge thank you to Reunion Committee Member Joan Sullivan, who, after numerous texts and phone messages went unanswered, marched herself down to the Beach IN PERSON to get an answer! Here it is: in the event of rain, the Gam Restaurant (now known as The Sandbar) will not open.... which means no food or drink. They will also cancel the CAR CRUISE Night. The weather forecast is presently saying 80% chance of rain for Monday. So, we have decided that we cannot chance that, nor can we wait to see if the forecast changes. THEREFORE: THE SBHS '67 MINI-REUNION will take place on Monday September 5, 2022 as planned, but at a DIFFERENT VENUE: THE SOCIAL located at 208 Bank Street, New London! The Social will, in fact, 1) be open, and 2) they can accommodate the 30 (or so) expected guests, and 3) they can provide food and beverages! They also have an outdoor deck that overlooks the Thames River...... in case we get a break in the weather. Here is the link to their website: https://www.socialnewlondon.com/ Summary: EVENT: SBHS '67 Mini Reunion (no change) DATE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2022 (no change) TIME: 5:30PM (no change) LOCATION: THE SOCIAL, 208 Bank Street, New London (website link above) NEW LOCATION! Here is the text of a message from Joan that you may find helpful, re the arrangements, parking, etc. “Hi Tom. We have a reservation at the Social for 30 people (noted that it could be less). Spoke with Sean. We'll have our own server and will each be given a numbered card to make billing and serving people easier. I mentioned that the occasion is a mini St. Bernard class reunion. Gave him my name and phone number. Told him that people may mention your name when. They show up. When you send out revised notice, please mention that drinks, appetizers and dinner will be available. The address is 208 Bank St. and parking available in municipal lot and, even more convenient, in the lot behind Sam's gas station and convenience store on Bank street, just prior to The Social on the right-Joan” N.B. That parking lot is accessed via Sparyard Street, which is opposite the Fire Station at the corner of Tilley Street and Bank. So, when you arrive at The Social, mention ‘St. Bernard’s Reunion’, or my name…. as noted above. Again, we apologize for the late notice, but….. we didn’t want to cancel at this late moment, and this ‘Plan B’ is good alternative, given the Holiday, etc. (Lots of places are closed.) The Social is a great NL venue, and we hope you all can make it! Thank you to the indefatigable Joan Sullivan for her great effort in nailing down this alternative! It is this kind of energy that makes this Reunion Committee work! Thanks, Joan! ;) Damn the torpedoes! Full Steam ahead…. And we will see you Monday at 5:30pm! Any questions? Please do not hesitate to shoot me an email, text or a phone call! Best, Tom Schuch Niantic 860.961.3576 mobile

Clarification: SBHS '67 September 5, 2022 Get Together at Ocean Beach

Hi All, Just to clear up any misunderstanding, which several people have now inquired about: The SBHS '67 Get Together at Ocean Beach on September 5, 2022 is NOT a costume party. After 55 years, it will be enough of a challenge to recognize each other in normal clothes! Fran Connors and Noreen Bluemling: please report to the Office at the end of 7th period to serve your detention for starting this little prank. ;) Too funny! So, again, this is NOT a Costume Party.... it is a 'come as you are' occasion. On the other hand, no guest in a costume will be turned away. Just sayin'. ;) And the numbers are growing, btw ...... looking forward to seeing you all there! Tom Schuch

SBHS Class of '67 Mini Get Together September 5, 2022

Hi All, I know that we have been basically dormant for an extended period of time, thanks partly to Covid, but..... we would like to try to schedule a little impromptu, short notice, get together. Humble apologies for the short notice and the abbreviated window: September 5, 2022 is the only date that we could arrange. It is Labor Day, so we understand that this may be a conflict for many of us who may already have other plans. If we cannot do it that day, we would have to wait for next spring. Given the short notice, and the fact that it is the Labor Day Holiday, the choice of a venue is also sharply limited. Ocean Beach has a 'Cruise Night' every Monday from Memorial Day to Labor Day: admission after 5pm is free. The Gam or Pilot House has a bar and restaurant that we have previously used for one of our gatherings. We can meet upstairs at the Gam for dinner/drinks/socializing after 5pm, and enjoy the car show, if you wish, as well as the Boardwalk, beach etc. Very informal, come if you can make it. We have considered other options, but ..... IMHO, the Ocean Beach option is the most attractive for a variety of reasons, nostalgia among them. 😉 Consider this your invitation. I have sent this invitation to the folks who are listed on the 'Reunion Committee' list, and to everyone on our SBHS '67 mailing list because..... what the hell! 😉 The venue is wide open and easily accessible and.... you never know who may be around and able to join us. Based on the response to this event, we may be also considering a larger Reunion-style event at some point in the not-too-distant pandemic-free future. I know some folks have inquired about that. If you are interested in seeing that happen...... please let me know! You KNOW that your SBHS '67 Reunion Committee can, and WILL, make that happen! 😉 In the meantime: set your calendars: 5:30pm, September 5, 2022 upstairs at the Gam/Pilot House/whatever they call it overlooking the former clock tower on the boardwalk! See you there! Remember: free admission and free parking at Ocean Beach after 5pm on Monday 'Cruise Night". We hope to see you there! Event: Class of '67 Mini-Get Together Date: September 5, 2022 Time: 5:30pm Location: Upstairs at The Gam overlooking the Boardwalk

Sunday, August 21, 2022

By an extraordinary coincidence thanks to Barbara Doherty, we have recently been able to contact Mike Armenia. Mike is not actually on Facebook, but I want to welcome him to the group. I will post this on our SBHS '67 blog where he can access it. Welcome Mike Armenia! 😉
